MADE NEW COUNSELING x LAURIE CARMICHAEL, LMFT

MARCH 2025 NEWSLETTER

A COLLAGE OF EMOTIONS

Mornings are my favorite time of day. There is hope, opportunities for connection, and reminders of renewal. Each morning is a gift and a reminder that yesterday doesn’t define us - we can always start again. Coffee is great too.

Peace and stillness is something worth fighting for. Being surrounded by nature is awesome, but it certainly is not the only way to find peace. If we don’t find stillness in our day-to-day lives, it will be hard to find it elsewhere. Even five minutes a day to connect with your internal self could make all the difference.

The gray days definitely come. There is beauty in authentically feeling the challenging emotions. They make you more relatable to others going through hard times. They grow you by stretching you. There is strength found in joy and struggle. We can do hard things.

The sunset is an ever -present reminder that at the end of the day, we are allowed to rest just like the natural world around us. We can give ourselves permission to reset and start again tomorrow.

Journaling prompts for reflection:

  • How have you been caring for your overall well-being lately? What is your capacity level these days? What do you need in order to slow down and create space to check in with yourself?

  • What are some of the basic needs you are able to meet for yourself every day? Is there anything you would like to be more aware of in the coming month to increase self-care?

  • What has resting looked like recently? When you rest, what has your self-talk been around that choice? Do you notice yourself being kind to yourself, critical, or something else?

  • How have you been asking for help? How has your capacity been to identify needs and articulate them to safe people in your life? How have others responded to your requests?

  • In the past month, have you had any gray days that brought on emotions that were difficult to process and work through? I can relate to that as this month has been harder than those in recent memory. Even mental health professionals struggle with their mental health. I am actively working through the need for self-care right along with you.
