Love and Self-Compassion If you have heard yourself saying anything like this recently: Life is relentless… I am exhausted and it all feels like too much… I don’t know why I just want to shut down, but this pace of life is leaving me with nothing left… I don’t know who I am after I give all of myself to others… Where is my community? It’s lonely out here… My heart breaks for the tragedies that take place every day… Then, I have a Valentine’s Day message for you: When everything feels like it’s too much, slow down and be kind to yourself. Your worth and lovability are not tied to your performance or productivity. It is connected to the essence of who you are. You are loveable from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep. Lovability is not something you can earn - it is an inherent value that you hold. Reach out to the person you haven’t talked to in a while. Initiate the contact. Courage is contagious. Don’t lose sight of caring for yourself as you give to others. Sustainable love requires rest. Having self-compassion means knowing when to put down your service of others to refill and re-fuel yourself through restorative rest. We are not powerful enough to fix all the problems of the world, but love in small ways, in local ways, can make a huge impact. Harness sadness and anger about injustice to make you a kinder, more empathetic person to the people you come in contact with daily. Service workers, your co-workers, your family, yourself. Thank you for being who you are. Remember: self-compassion is not indulgence. It is a tool of regulation. May this Valentine’s Day be a time of holding love closely for yourself and sharing it with others in a way that feels authentic to you 🩵
